Looking back after 10 years
We are done with the major jobs and work as we can on the little things like the trim. As with most homes it seems like we will never be done but just looking back we have come a long way baby!
This is what we bought in May 2011!
Here is the house 10 years later.

Back porch
Ralph started the back porch, with the help of Kent.

Only at the farm for a week. We tackled the stairs and are very happy how they turned out. Good to know everyone will be safe going up and down! Ralph also got the light hung for the hallway.
This is how we left it on our last trip. The first step to this project was to take off each board to make it level. Then extra screws were added to keep it from moving as much as possible.

The treads are oak, they had to be cut to fit tight to the log walls. Then the risers were done the same way. They were secured with glue and from underneath with screws.

Putting on the handrail and balusters was a real challenge because nothing is the same from step to step!

Two coats of polyurethane have been applied to the steps but we didn't get the whole thing done before we left.

Just a few days to work this trip but the gutters were put on. Ralph and I finished the sides of the cellar along with the normal spring mowing. We will be going back soon and have plans to put down vapor barrier.

Things have slowed down because of the weather. The roof is half on and the backdoor is on now. The project is going to be stopped after a couple more things are done. This will give us a chance to go there and make some decisions in person.

The Renovations Begin
It has been an very exciting time at the farm this July. Emtying out the house and watching house being taken apart. Deciding what can be saved, discovering things hidden and creating a vision of what the house was to the families that came before. Thanks to digital camaras its easy to get carried away showing the daily changes so I will try to post something each week and show what changes are being made as this becomes our home.
